Terms of Use

End-User License Agreement · Last updated: 24 June 2026

These terms govern your use of Maurice, the iPhone, iPad and Mac app published under the Chez Maurice product (the “App”) by Candide Kemmler (“we”, “us”). By installing or using the App you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the App.

1. What Maurice is

Maurice is a client for a self-hosted Maurice server that someone — you or another person — runs on their own machine. The App connects only to the server you choose. Each server is operated independently; the person who runs a server (the “operator”) controls how Maurice behaves on it and is responsible for the content and conduct on that server.

2. Your account and conduct

You are responsible for what you post. When you post in a shared room, it is visible to the other members of that room and to the server’s operator. Your private one-to-one conversations remain isolated to you.

3. No objectionable content — zero tolerance

You may not use the App to create, post, store, or share content that is, or to engage in conduct that is:

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users.

4. Reporting, and our response commitment

The App lets you report content or members, block other members, and leave any room at any time. Reported in-room content goes to that server’s operator to moderate.

Operators commit to removing reported objectionable content and ejecting offending users within 24 hours of becoming aware of a violation. For the official Chez Maurice service and the App itself, we respond to reports at safety@chezmaurice.eu and act on violations within our control.

Suspected child exploitation should also be reported directly to the authorities (see Reporting links below). To report that the App or a server is being used to cause harm, you may also report it to Apple.

5. Operators

If you run a Maurice server, you are responsible for the content and members on it, for moderating reports promptly (see §4), for publishing reachable contact information, and for complying with applicable law — including mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse material.

6. The software is open source, provided “as is”

The Chez Maurice source code is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (with an App Store distribution exception). The App is provided WITHOUT WARRANTY of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for content created by users or operators, or for the operation of servers we do not run.

7. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms.
